Why Higher Education IT Departments are Opting for New Equipment Warranties

Thursday, May 17th, 2012 | Permalink

Many of the IT departments in big institutions are amongst the luckiest when it comes to equipment warranties lately. It turns out that the old boilerplate warranties are being replaced with stricter, more protective negotiated contracts. The warranty revamp will certainly assist institutions with streamlining their IT operations and running them more efficiently and economically.

We all struggle when it comes to purchasing – or not purchasing – extended service plans for our valuable electronics and tech equipment. Colleges and universities are no exception. In fact, for them, the decision is even more imperative because IT managers consider extra coverage not simply as protection against failure or breakage of their devices, but as a means to control inventory, lower expenses and basically simplify the overall IT procedure within their schools.

Lots of things are changing when it comes to warranties and college equipment. Gone are the days when vendors would compensate schools for repairs done by themselves to fix student devices which were covered. With new negotiated warranties, theres less need for such repairs – despite the fact that the number of devices that students rely on to succeed in their education is growing in leaps and bounds every day. Luckily, there are many companies, like Consumer Priority Service, that offer many different ypes of service plans that cater to specific needs.

IT infrastructure is becoming increasingly intricate. When you think about the days where the library card catalog was your only resource for locating a book and then consider the ridiculous abundance of gadgets and systems for accomplishing the same task today, its quite astounding. Its no wonder IT departments are analyzing their needs, eschewing standard warranties and opting for the new negotiated contracts, which offer services and coverage that is much more customized. If you think about it, its a crucial step for our education system – and one which that will certainly help students learn, create, and study more efficiently. The end result: success all around.

Soon you will be able to pre order ipad 3 online and while there are a horde of blogs and websites full of all the juicy new details there is a new theory hatching that says Apple is planing to release a smaller version of the iPad which will be called the iPad 3S. This would be similar to when the iPhone 4S was released last year when everyone was anticipating the iPhone 5 release. The speculation is that they will surprise us again in the next month when the new iPad will be released. The current idea is that this would be a smaller size, something more in line with the Kindle Fire or Nook Color which is a 7 inch tablet instead of the 10 inch iPad 2. This is a very interesting concept and could bring the iPad to a lower price point which might make it more accessible for more people to purchase who would previously not be able to get a tablet of any kind.
